Capability
Why LiDAR for Open Terrain
Point-Cloud Classification
Distinguishes people, vehicles, and wildlife by 3D shape rather than 2D silhouette.
Lighting Independent
Performs equally in full daylight and total darkness, unlike optical-only systems.
Trajectory Tracking
Continuously tracks an object's path and speed across the monitored zone.
Long-Range Coverage
905nm sensors suit mid-range zones; 1550nm eye-safe sensors extend detection range for open desert perimeters.
Integration
LiDAR Inside the Security Architecture
PTZ Auto-Slew
LiDAR track coordinates automatically cue thermal or optical PTZ cameras onto the target.
PSIM Mapping
Live tracks displayed on a site map inside the command platform for operator situational awareness.
Complementary Sensing
Commonly paired with fiber or radar for multi-technology confirmation before alarm escalation.
FAQ
LiDAR Perimeter Security - FAQ
What is the difference between 905nm and 1550nm LiDAR for perimeter security?
905nm LiDAR is cost-effective for mid-range detection zones, while 1550nm LiDAR operates at an eye-safe wavelength permitting higher laser power, which extends usable detection range for long, open perimeters typical of Saudi industrial and giga-project sites.
Can LiDAR replace CCTV for perimeter monitoring?
No. LiDAR detects and tracks objects by position and shape but does not produce a visual image an operator can identify a person from. It is typically paired with PTZ cameras that auto-slew to the LiDAR track for visual verification.
How does LiDAR perform in sandstorms or heavy dust?
Dense airborne dust can attenuate laser return signal and reduce effective range, similar to how it affects other optical sensors. Site-specific range budgeting and sensor spacing account for this during design, and LiDAR is often paired with radar, which is largely unaffected by dust, for redundancy.
