Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS) in Saudi Arabia

Layered PIDS combining fiber optic sensing, 3D LiDAR, radar, PIR, and underground seismic detection, engineered to HCIS SEC-02 through SEC-05 requirements for Saudi critical facilities.

A Perimeter Intrusion Detection System (PIDS) uses sensor technologies such as fiber optic cable, 3D LiDAR, radar, PIR, and buried seismic sensors along a facility fence line to detect, locate, and classify intrusion attempts before they reach the asset, feeding real-time alarms to a central command platform.

FAQ

Perimeter Intrusion Detection (PIDS) - FAQ

What is Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) in fiber optic PIDS?
DAS analyzes the Rayleigh backscatter of laser light traveling through a fiber optic cable, detecting minute vibrations caused by cutting, climbing, or digging along the cable's entire length, and reporting the exact location of the disturbance to within a few meters.
How does 3D LiDAR differ from radar for perimeter detection?
LiDAR uses 905nm or 1550nm laser pulses to build a precise 3D point cloud of the perimeter, giving accurate object size and shape classification, while radar uses radio waves for longer range detection across open areas with lower resolution on object shape.
Can PIDS be installed on existing HCIS-compliant fencing?
In most cases, yes. Fence-mounted fiber optic and PIR/microwave systems can be retrofitted to existing SEC-02 compliant fencing, while buried seismic and radar systems are typically installed as a standalone detection layer in front of or behind the fence line.
What causes nuisance alarms in Saudi desert environments and how is it addressed?
Wind-loaded fencing, blowing sand, and wildlife are the most common nuisance-alarm sources in KSA. Modern PIDS use adaptive signal processing and multi-sensor correlation, so an alarm is only raised when two independent technologies, such as fiber and radar, agree on a genuine intrusion event.
